Superpowers: the skill pack that makes your agent plan before it codes

If your agent jumps straight into code and you spend the next hour undoing its guesses, Superpowers is worth ten minutes of your time. It's a set of skills by Jesse Vincent (obra/superpowers) that gives the agent a real development process instead of "start typing".

What it changes

  • Brainstorming first. Before any code, the agent asks what you actually want and why, then writes the design back to you for approval.

  • Plans with file paths. Work is broken into small tasks, each with the files it touches and how to verify it.

  • Test-driven by default. Red, green, refactor: the test has to fail before the implementation is written.

  • Systematic debugging. Find the root cause before proposing a fix, instead of patching the symptom.

  • Review before merge. A reviewer checks the work against the plan, then a finishing step verifies tests and handles the merge or PR.

Install

In Claude Code:

/plugin install superpowers@claude-plugins-official

It also runs in Codex, Cursor, Gemini CLI, OpenCode, Pi and more. The README has the command for each one.

Where it shines

Anything bigger than a one-line fix. The brainstorm and plan steps feel slow the first time, but they're where most wasted agent hours get saved: you correct a wrong assumption in one sentence instead of in 400 lines of code.

Are you running it? I'd like to hear which skill you lean on most.
